ANTHROPOLOGY

Anthropology is a vast field of study—it is the study of humanity across time and space. Anthropology is unique in its enormous breadth and its distinctive focus. This course of study is designed and constructed to introduce students to the anthropological study of different cultures, including ways of comparing and contrasting the structures of social relationships and belief systems that operate in different cultural settings.  Students will learn the four-field approach of anthropology and overview the four subfields of Archaeology, Linguistics, Biological/Physical Anthropology, and Cultural Anthropology (known as "stones", "tones", "bones", and "thrones").

Our primary resource book for this class is from OpenStax which is available free online! Students can choose to purchase a softcover or hardback book but it is not necessary.

The Khan Academy Big History Projects' Unit 6 "Early Humans" is an excellent resource for our Anthropology course and we will be using some of the information here as well!

This National Geographic website gives a great overview of Anthropology and will give you an idea of the topics we will cover in class.
