I'm Angela Martin, Ed.S., aka The Eclectic Historian!

 

Historian by education, educator by profession, artist at heart, and storyteller by nature. And yes, sometimes all four collide spectacularly.

I'm a high school history teacher who loves digging into the strange, fascinating, occasionally ridiculous, and often overlooked corners of history. The people nobody remembers? The stories that didn't make it into the textbooks? The historical what ifs that send you down a rabbit hole at 2 a.m.?

THAT'S my kind of history. 🐇

 

SO, WHAT DO I DO?

I write historical fiction, explore alternative historical possibilities, and enjoy giving the forgotten people of history a voice.

I also create educational resources, curriculum planners, and interactive history and art courses through The Eclectic Historian. My work brings creativity, curiosity, and critical thinking into learning—making history and art more engaging, thought-provoking, and accessible for teachers and curious minds alike.

Because history should make you ask MORE questions, not fewer.

🎓 THE ACADEMIC STUFF (YES, THERE'S A BIT )

​

I've earned a B.A. in History with a minor in Anthropology, a Master of Arts in Teaching with a Social Studies concentration, and an Ed.S. in Curriculum and Instruction. I'm also certified to teach K–12 Art, with additional professional training in Advanced Placement instruction, gifted education, and instructional coaching.

​

I love finding ways to bring history, anthropology, art, and education together. Hence the name Eclectic Historian. 

But there's another layer to that name! My approach to curriculum and instruction is rooted in educational eclecticism, with a healthy dose of constructivism and a few other pedagogical philosophies thrown into the mix. I don't believe effective teaching has to fit neatly into one theoretical box. I draw from different approaches, adapt them to the learners in front of me, and create opportunities for students to question, investigate, connect, and construct their own understanding.

So yes, eclectic is quite deliberate. In what I study, what I create, and how I teach. 🐇

A FEW RANDOM FACTS

I'm a big Stranger Things fan, and Mary, Queen of Scots, Theodore Roosevelt, and Genghis Khan are among my favorite historical figures. Yes, I realize that's a rather interesting dinner party waiting to happen.

​

I live in Georgia with my spouse, two children, and FOUR cats.

And before anyone asks, NO, that is not too many cats. 🐈😂

And because curiosity has a funny way of taking us places we never expected to go.
